Anne Creighton was born in Newton Stewart about 1822. Her parents are unknown. She arrived in Victoria, Australia on 15 Jan 1841 aboard the "Ferguson". On 8 April 1844 she married James Melven in Sydney, NSW and they had 8 children. Anne died on 2 Oct 1870 at Gladesville, Sydney. Would appreciate any info at all re Creightons in Newton Stewart or nearby districts.

Hi Monica,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in church records for information?
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
Unfortunately, Catholic records for Ardstraw parish do not begin until 1846, so you will be unable to find Anne?s birth record if she was Catholic.
Have you tried looking at Griffith?s Valuation to see if there were any Creighton?s still in the area at the time? This is a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland 1848-1864. It doesn?t give any genealogical information however it may give you some names to go on in your research. You can search this here:

Some other websites that you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tyrone/index.html
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
It may also be an idea to contact the Irish World Heritage Centre in Tyrone for assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: info@irish-world.com
I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
