I'm happy to report that I know quite a bit about our family from Fauleens. The parents of our grandparents were Thomas Gallagher and Mary Ryans.  Thomas was born in Fauleens in 1870 and died 1918.  Mary was born in Roosky, Lowpark in 1874.  They had 6 children:  Peter, Thomas, John, Bridget, Catherine and Mary.  We know that Peter, Thomas, and Bridget immigrated to the USA.

  • Below are the 1901 and 1911 census records for your Gallagher family. I could not locate a Ryans family in Lowpark in the 1901 census. I will get back to you tomorrow on your other question.

  • Thank you Roger.  I have been populating the family tree with all the information and additional information comes up.  If you know how Ancestry works, they let you know with "hints" when you have new information.    I now have a baptismal record for Bridget and other bits.

Reverse engineering genealogy research was a brilliant idea and we are looking forward to meeting our Irish cousins.  Thank you for your part in helping us re-connect.

  • Have you any record of Florence Gallagher born 1920 in Faleens who married Michael (AKA William) Meehan from Ballyhaunis in USA and had one daughter Eileen.

  • We do not have a Florence Gallagher in our family, however, in 1911 there are 4 Gallagher households according to the 1911 Census.  I would suggest looking at that census.  Good luck neighbor.

  • Florence is my 1st cousin twice removed.  I don't yet know what happened to her after she emigrated but I have loads of information on the rest of her family from Fauleens.  I am also in contact with her cousins in the New York area and have access to a photo of her with her mother Nora.

In fact, I have just returned from visiting what is left of the family home and her parents, William & Nora's grave in Carracastle last weekend.

Please contact me if you would like anymore information.

  • Hi! I have a Gallagher in my family tree, and I was hoping to find out more information about them. Her name was Mary Gallagher (married name Kelly), and she was born around 1872 in Cloonfane, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Her father was James Gallagher. Her mother was Honor Gallagher neeTrapy, but I am not sure about her first name. Mary Gallagher married Edward Kelly in 1900, and they lived in Fauleens where Edward Kelly was from. They had six children: Anne, Norah Kate, John Francis, Mary Ellen, Michael, and Bridget.

If anyone has information on Mary Gallagher's mother, that would be great.

    Thank you!

  • We do not have a Mary Gallagher b. abt. 1872 in Cloonfane, Co Mayo in our family.  The Mary Gallagher we have closest to that date  was b. 1910 and married a Patrick Brolly.  The Gallagher family we have was all born in and around Fauleens going back to Owen Gallagher b. 1810.  We don't have a James Gallagher, Honor Trapy or Edward Kelly.

Have you consulted the Irish Parish Records, all the census records and obtained a birth certificate for Edward Kelly in Fauleens?  That may help in researching Mary Gallagher Kelly (1872) and finding her mother. I also had very good luck contacting the local local Catholic church in Carracastle.  I wrote them I was visiting and when I arrived they had copies of all the baptismal records I was requesting for the familiy.

Good luck as you will find or already know all you have to do is turn around and you'll find another Gallagher in Co. Mayo.
