I am looking for information or records relating to David and Catherine LOGAN, nee Clements.
Their religion was Church of England or Presbyterian. I have found a Baptismal record of a son of David and Catherine Logan, named Alexander Logan. Alexander was Baptised on 11th June 1826 in Lower Cumber Derry.
Victorian, Aust. Marriage records prove that my great grandmother, Marianne Logan who was born about 1837, and her sister Margaret Anne Logan who was born about 1838, were also children of David and Catherine Logan. On their Marriage Registration both Logan sisters state they come from Londonderry, and family history is that they were from Lower Cumber, too. Both Marianne and Margaret Anne came to Victoria, Australia as Assisted Passengers, and were listed as "Scottish/Irish". Marianne, (named as Mary Anne on Passenger List), arrived in Victoria in December 1858 on the ship John and Lucy, and Margaret Anne earlier in 1857.
Despite knowing all these facts, I have been completely unable to find any other records of David or Catherine Logan, my great great parents, in Derry. (Or of their son Alexander). It seems likely that David Logan and Catherine Clements may have been born around 1800 and were probably married prior to Alexander's birth in 1826. Thank you for any help with this mystery.

Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, given the date of Alexander?s baptism, the chances of finding birth records relating to his parents may be quite slim as it can be hard to find records as early as 1800 and before. You may be lucky however and be able to find a marriage record for David and Catherine. SOmetimes these also list father?s names. Where you will have to look for records really depends on what religion the family were.
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42

Presbyterian registers are held in three main locations:
in local custody

PRONI has microfilm copies of almost all registers in Northern Ireland and also lists of records held by the Presbyterian Historical Society.
Have you tried looking for record of the family in Griffith?s Valuation? This was a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland 1848-1864. You can search this here:

Also, civil registration became mandatory in Ireland in 1864 so if either Catherine or David died after this time you should be able to find a record of it in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
