Hello
I am seeking any info re: my great grandparents James and Bridget Burke Robinson and their children from Aghamore. My grandfather was Francis( Frank) born in 1875.He had two older sisters Catherine ( Kate) and Mary Ellen and two younger brothers John William and James. There may have been another sibling?name. I found this info in baptismal records online.I believe their church was St. Joseph's.I also found a marriage record for Bridget and James for February, 1870.I noted that my great grandfather's name was spelled Robbinson whether this was a misprint or maybe the original spelling is unknown but it has always been Robinson elsewhere. He was in the 1911 census with Catherine and James in the household. He was a farmerI believe he died in the 1920's
My great grandmother, Bridget, died in July 1898.Just guessing, think she was born in the 1840's
She was an aunt to a Bridget Towey who died in childbirth in the early 1900'sI don't think her niece was from Aghamore but nearby. That child,Delia, later married a Kenzie..first name?
James Jr.,my grandfather's youngest brother, married a ? Connor and their daughter later married an Englishman? Whiteside. They had three children and lived for the most part in England.
My grandfather,Frank emigrated to America around 1900.He married Maria(Mary)Howley in 1902 .She had emigrated from Cloondolough aka Ballywinagher?sp. My grandfather died in 1920 at age 45. I recently learned that he had to leave Ireland because the British were looking for him.A relative recalls my grandmother saying that he had scars on his back from being shot or beaten.I can't vouch for the accuracy of all of this but there is some truth in it I'm sure. They settled in Chester, Pennsylvania. And also lived in Collingswood. Ontario, Canada for a few years, where my grandfather found work with the railroad.
I know that Ihave covered a lot but hope that a name or something in this message might provide a clue to learning more about my family in Aghamore.I don't know where my great grandparents are buried but think it might be Aghamore Cemetery and possibly an unmarked grave.
I remember my father saying that there were cousins with the last name of Byrnes -- Bray and just a guess --possible links to the Costello and Ward families.
Thanks for the opportunity to post my message

The first place to start your search is in your own home - talk to elders in the family - find out abouttheir parents, grandparents etc. Perhaps they have a story of one of your ancestors? Things to enquire about include: occupations, places of residence, who they were living with(people often stayed with others from their home villages after emigration), siblings & other familymembers, first names (important -as usually past from father to son/mother to daughter) ages attime of emigration, possible dates of birth/death, religious denominations. Also ask if there are anysurviving photographs, old documents or letters - record all the information you can find. Write/telephone other members of your family to check details -perhaps they can remember otherfacts about your ancestors? Hopefully when you have done this - some clues will emerge! After youhave identified the emigrant- begin tracing the steps back to Ireland. Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they mighthave travelled with..etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than theport of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, Ellis Island), this could be agood place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. Shippingmanifests can be checked ?which may lead to more clues. The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml Also have a look on these sites good luck with your seach.
