I am researching the family of John Ahern (b. circa 1795) and Mary Tuomey/Thummay (b ca 1795, died 18 Nov 1886 in Franklin Twp, Somerset New Jersey). Mary Toumey's parents were Humphrey Twomey and Hanora Walsh
I got some information from the Mallow Heritage center about John and Mary.
They couldn't find info on John and Mary's marriage.
John and and Mary's children -
John Isaac Ahern, b Feb 1821 (Mallow HC had no baptismal record)
Cornelius Ahern b Feb 1826, baptised 15 Feb 1826, Coachford Parish, Macroom, Cork, godparents: MIchael Desmond & Honora Toumey
Jeremiah Ahern, b Feb 1828 (Mallow HC had no baptismal record)
James Ahern, b Oct 1830, baptised 30 Oct 1830 Coachford Parish, Macroom, Cork, godparents Denis Toumey and Mary Lihane
Michael Ahern, b.May 1834, baptised 10 June 1834, Clondrohid Parish, Macroom, Cork, godparents Michael Walsh and Johanna Walsh
John Isaac emigrated 1851 with his wife, Hannah/Honora Murphy (no marriage record from Mallow HC)
James emigrated 1852
Jeremiah, Michael and Mary Toumey Ahern all emigrated 1853. No record of John Ahern Sr or Cornelius emigrating so assume they died in Ireland.
I would appreciate any ideas of further search places or any more information.
Thanks,
Mary Roddy

Hi Mary,
Thank you very much for your message.
You can use the Irish TImes website to see what Catholic records are available in the parish of Clondrohid and where there are copies. You can see from this website that the National Library of Ireland also have some baptismal records dating from 1807-1822.
Here is the website for the NLI: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
perhaps you could also try looking for a death record for John Snr and Cornelius to see if they did actually die in Ireland. Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864, so if they passed away after this date you should be able to find record of it in civil records. These are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Some other websites that may prove useful or give you some more ideas are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
Failte Romhat: www.failteromhat.com
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/cork/index.html
I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
