The Griffith lists a few Tisdalls in Kilmore, Cavan. My James Tisdale (b 1800-1805) along with his wife Jane Brady or Bryan and children, James Jr., Joseph (possible), John, George and Ann (all born about 1830s) immigrated from Cavan to Ontario, Canada about 1848 before Griffith or any of the other records I've found.
I am hoping to make some connections in Ireland!

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in local parish records in Kilmore to see if you can find a birth or marriage cert that would help confirm your connection to Kilmore?
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Kilmore parish, follow this link:
As you can see. records in Kilmore do not start until 1859, so it may also be an idea to check the neighbouring parish records. Here is a link to a map of the Catholic parishes in Cavan:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/cavanrc.htm
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
There are also some websites that have church records available online:
www.familysearch.org have a huge collection of genealogical records, including some births and baptims in Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a vast collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Have you looked into James and family?s emigration much? Sometimes more inforamtion was given at the post of arrival rather than that of departure, so immigration records may also be a source of information- and possibly even a more exact place of origin. For information on Canadian immigration records check the National Library and Archives:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/cavan/index.html
Alternatively, you could contact Cavan Genealogy Centre for assistance-a fee may apply. cavangenealogy@eircom.net
I hope that some of this is helpful and you are able to make a connection in the area! Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
Genealogy Support

Thanks for all the information and links. It seems like my family are caught in the inbetween times where there are no records in either country. I'll keep looking.
