Hi Amber, Do you have a townland other than Lavey? what is your information based on, I guess she was married in 1841 at 16?

Civil Registrations starts in 1864, however for Lavey there is still a partial census  for 1821 that you may be lucky with & Cavan Library has a copy & I think you should contact the Cavan Co Library for further assistance.

  • Thank you so much for the hint as to where to look next. :)  The information I am going by if from my Great great great grandfather's obituary and also from a publication from the county they lived in here in Iowa, USA. It only lists her birth place as Lavey, Cavan,Ireland, no other town is given. Her parents names were Edward and Mary Smith, but that is as much as i have been able to learn about them so far.

  • HI Amber.

I am late to reply to your post but my husband's family were the Smiths and McDonalds from County Cavan, and Lavey Parish. Patrick McDonald married Isabella Smith in 1865. He parents were Frank Smith and Anne Lee. Have you come across any of those names in your tree?

Patrick and Isabella were almost a generation later than your ancestors. Patrick was born arounf 1833 to parents James McDonald and Jane Smollen. Isabella was born around 1849.
