Hi

i am the Granddaughter of the 2 people listed above and would love to find out more about both families - particularly their parents. I am in touch with my family in Cootehill - who are my grandmother sisters family (Annie) but would like to know more about Brownes who lived at knockatudor and Pattersons who lived in stradone.

My father was Samuel Browne - born i 1929 in Wicklow - where the family moved to from Cavan.

I am over on monday 18th visiting with family - does anyone know if or how i can access the Larah Church of Ireland parish records - my grandmother is buried in the graveyard in the church.

many thanks

  • I looked up the phone book, but Church of Ireland, Laragh, is not listed, but if you wish to try The See House, in Cavan Town, they may be able to help you 049 4331336

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here:http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could also try contacting the Cavan Co Library for further assistance.

  • I am wondering if you would have any of our family in your tree?

We have a John Browne married to Margaret McKeogh and their child Thomas ( I know of nother siblings; but ther is a good possibilty there were some)

    Thomas Browne born 24 Feb 1857 ?, Cavan Ireland;

he married an Eliza Jane Harrison/Browne on 1 Sept 1880 ( she was from Ardmone and they married in her home Church at Dernakesh,Chapel of Ease, Parish of Drumgoon.-- However, he said his place of residence was Leighan, Parish of Killdrumsherdan & his Father was a John Browne.

Thomas and his wife Eliza Jane ended up in Canada and here their family consisted of-

    Joseph1881, Margaret1882, John1884, Ann1887,Thomas1889, Elizabeth1891,William1893, Emma1894, Letitia1898, Robert1900, George Henry1902, Ella1903 & Minnie Letitia1905.

If we do the family name thing; I can say- Joseph was named after Eliza Jane's Father

    Margaret after Thomas' Mother

    John after Thomas' Father

    Ann after Eliza Jane's Mother

    Thomas for himself

    Elizabeth for Eliza Jane

the rest are all guesses-- but the fact that we are both looking for a George Browne in a fairly close area has me wondering??

  • Hi

this is a very late reply so I hope you receive this.  My great grandfather was George Browne from Aghaway, Larah.  I believe he had a sister Abigail.  His parents were James and Lucy Browne as listed in the 1921 census and Drung baptism records.
Abigail Browne married James Patterson in 1860 and moved to Knockatudor.

I can see no records of children but at some point a James Browne came to live with them.  I assume a nephew.

james Patterson dies in 1887 aged 86 and Abigail aged 80 in 1898.

if you would like to join the connection please contact me, I hope this facility allows a way to do that.  I know of two members of the family who moved to Co Down but would love to connect with other family members.
