On 20 December 1839 John Carew, a farmer from Kilfeacle, and four of his children with his wife Mary Farrell, who had died in Ireland, arrived in Australia. Thomas was born 1812, and eventually emigrated again with his wife and family to San Francisco; Mary, born about 1815; Joanna, born about 1817; and John, born about 1821. John married Catherine Davis, an heir to the fortune of William Davis the Wexford Pikemaker, became a barrister in Queensland, and died in Fiji.
