I'm looking for the birth record of my GGGrandfather, John Henry Pension. The information I have is he was born in April of 1853 in Kilworth. He emigrated to Lynn, MA, USA, in 1858. His father was Michael Pension, his mother was Elizabeth Clifford.

Michael and Elizabeth married in Ireland. I am assuming it was near Kilworth. They emigrated to Boston, MA, USA in 1854.

Any information would be appreciated.

  • Hi thanks for your message and interest in Ireland Reaching Out.

There a number of possible places where you can find the birth record for John. Church Records usually have this information, so you need to know what religion he was.

If he was Roman Catholic, you can check what records are available for the parish of Kilworth on the Irishtimes website, at the following link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Cork%20East&parish=Kilworth&churchid=72

Church of Ireland Records can be found at http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.

You may want to also try The National Library of Ireland at http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Hopefully the birth record will be found at one of these sources.

    For information regarding their emigration

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

I found two persons  by the name of  Pension in Kilworth  in 1901 census.
