Iam trying to find my grandfather John McCarthy (Born 1872). His parents were Dennis/John McCarthy and Mary Helen Regan (Reagan) McCarthy. From what we know they lived within a days ride from Castletown Bearhaven. John had 2 sisters - one was Mary Elizabeth and the other married a man named Timothy Cullinane from Ireland. He had brothers: William, Thomas, Dennis, James and Timothy. We know that William died in Buffalo, New York, USA in 1898.
John McCarthy, my grand father, lived in the first ward in Buffalo, New York in 1895 and married a Helen McCarthy from Ballydehob, Ireland, approx 1907. Mary Elizabeth (Born 1870) lived in the same area and married a Euguen Sullivan in 1892, in Buffalo, NY, USA, Eugene came from Castletown Bearhaven.

Hi
Thank you for your message.
I have forwarded your request for assistance to a volunteer in County COrk who may be able to offer some assistance or advice.
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.
Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,

Hi
I have looked for your Grandfather John McCarthy but as this is a very common name in the Beara area I will need more information. You will need to try and find out what townland he came from to narrow the search. You say his father and mother both had double first names, would you know which they used most either Denis or John and Mary or Helen.
I also entered all the details you gave into ancestry and I found two possible matches on other family trees so maybe you would like to start a tree on there even if just for the two week free trial. It also has all the American cences records on there which will give a full picture of the family in America.
