Hello,
I am trying to learn more about my ancestor who was born in Moylough about 1840. Her name was Catherine Nockley, (or perhaps Knockley.) She married Patrick Gerrity (who was also from Galway) in Lancashire, England in March 1860. Her marriage record says her father's name was Michael Knockley. I have not been able to find any Irish records for her. I never knew which part of Galway she came from until I found an English census record that fortunately recorded her townland, Moylough. Most of their children stayed in England. My great-grandfather Patrick J Garrity left for America in 1887 and my family lives here now.
If anyone can shed further light on this family I would greatly appreciate it.
Best to you,
Patrick

Dear Patrick
I am from a neighbouring parish and just saw your message
The name that you mentioned Knockly or Nockley is one that I have not come across in the area It does not appear in the Griffith's valuation or the vcensus
A very rare name in north Galway is Nohilly and while its pronunciation suggests similarity it may not be connected
Interestingly someone else is looking for a Noakley from Kilkerrin which is a few miles away from Moylough: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~miconn/micweb/noakley-keaveny.html Maybe there is a link there ?
Meanwhile the name Geraghty (Garrity) is extremley common in the area and it may be possible that Catherine's Moylough census data may refer to Pat's place or if it was Kilkerrin it may have been put down maybe for convenience
I hope this might be of use to you and hopefully some one from Moylough may know something to help
