Looking for information on the family of Patrick Mangan and his wife, Catherine Costello from Listowel. Patrick and four children: Patrick, Daniel, Mary and Johanna came to the USA about 1848. Catherine Costello and 3 other children: John, Michael and Ann did not emigrant. I assume they died in Ireland.  Is anyone out there related? Can you give me more information of this family before they left Ireland?

  • Hi, my name is James Cussen and I live in Montreal.

I finally got to see the records in Ireland on June 30, 2022 and I found that the Cussen's were in
    Listowel, Kerry, Ireland.

I already new that Maurice Cussen was born in Kerry, Ireland as his parents were also - William Cussen (or Cushin for example) and his wife Honora O'Conner.

Looking at the Irish Geneology.ie I saw for the Sponsors last names like Walsh, Enright, Magee, Flaherty, Morris, Healy, Dowde and Costello.

These were Sponsors during Cussen's baptism's around late 1820's to early 1830's in Listowel.

There is one baptism for Bridget Lysagh in 1860 whose parents were John Lysagh and Deborah Cussen.
The two Sponsors were Nicholas Costello and Honora Cussen.

I have a printout of a marriage of Edward Purcell and Ellen Keating in 1850, I do not know these names but the two Sponsors are Patrick Enright who has been a Sponsor in Cussen baptism's and Nicholas Costello.

So here in Montreal we have buried with the Cussen's but not on the tombstone is Catherine Costello who was buried 24 January 1874.

Do you recognize any of the names I mentioned, it probably is a different Catherine but it is very interesting.

Do you have Cussen or any of the other names in your family tree.
