My g,g,g grandparents, James Scallen & Margaret Nixon,  christened their children in the Church of Ireland, Magheracross, Diocese of Clogher: Thomas 1829, Edward 1832, John 1844 and William 1845.  My g,g grandfather, Edward Scallen married Ellen Breen in 1852 and at some point, moved to Scotland and the Glasgow coal mines.  In 1887, their son, John Nixon Scollon, moved to NYC, followed by his wife, Margaret (Ferguson) and their 2 children the following year.  Looking to expand my information if anyone has anything.

  • Hi, I have been looking at old queries and it appears that the records for Maghercross are held locally only as nothing is coming up for the name in any county now in Northern Ireland, one late in the 1800s for Co. Tyrone, the name appears to be around the country. This link from the Church of Ireland shows the location of the various parish registers

Also Protestant marriages were registered in the civil record from 1845 and can be found on this free site, click on civil and sign in.
