  • Hi Kim,

I know this house and I knew chrissie McInerney and her family well. The house is closed up now since Chrissie died. Her son Jimmy lives in England and hasn't been home very much since Chrissie died. I have been living here for the past 60 years.

If there is anything I can do for you please let me know. My name is Connie O'Dwyer and I could share some memories with you.

  • Hi Connie,

I'm so glad you contacted me!  My mo-in-law Eileen will be thrilled that I'm looking at her family again.  She is 82y and lost her husband 2y ago.  She loves to tell stories about the family.

She remembers visiting Chrissie vividly though I'm not sure it was the warmest of welcome on Chrissie's part!  I think she might have been a little suspicious of Eileen's motives but when Eileen saw a photo of her mother as a little girl with her grandmother on the wall of the house, Chrissie must have accepted she was family!  I actually have a photo of them together with that photo on wall behind them.

I have heard of her son Jimmie.  Chrissie's mother, Kate Collins, had 2 children by a Patrick O'Brien, one of which was Mary O'Brien who immigrated to US/Chicago 1927, sponsored by Chrissie's grandmother Bridget Ryan Collin's sister  Bessie Ryan Ryan [she m. John Ryan of Lough Gur in Chicago].  Bessie Ryan is Eileen's grandmother whom she ronly emembers a little as Bessie died when Eileen 3y.

I have been in contact quite a bit with a descendant of Mary O'Brien.  She is the one who gave me all the old photos.

Can you tell me the address of Chrissie's house by chance?  I would love to look it up on GoogleMaps - I saw they had some Street Views of the area now.

I would love to keep in contact with you - maybe we should do it away from this Message Board so we don't clog it up!  My email is kwet@mindspring.com

    Thanks again for contacting me!

  • Hi Connie,

Kim made me aware of this group and this conversation.  Mary O'Brien (maiden name) was my husband's grandmother and she was the oldest sister of Chrissie McInerney.  I would love to hear any memories of Old Pallas and the McInerneys.  I have my genealogy online at www.elizabethriemer.com .  If you create a user account and login you can see living people, otherwise that is all private.

Our big mystery has always been, "Who was Mary O'Brien's father?".  All we know is that his name was Patrick O'Brien and that he had a brother named "Batty".

  • On my great grandmother's baptismal certificate from the Pallas green parish dated 2.13 - 1853 are the names of her sponsors, a William Ryan and and a Bridget Ryan. My great grandmother's name was Catherine Bradshaw.

Her parents were Joseph Bradshaw and Margaret Grady

  • I have ancestors from the same area - Pallas green - or old pallas green, My ggf John SMithwick born 1830 and his second wife, my ggm, Catherine Bradshaw had many children born there. My grandmother, MAry Smithwick, was born in 1886 in August along with her twin sister. My GM came over to the USA after her siblings at around age 9.

I spent an afternoon there back in the late 1980's talking with the parish secretary and spent time in the parish cemetery - it is beautiful there. I found the large white house where my GM was born. I don't know who lives there now. I also spent time in the cemetery there and found Smithwick ancestors.

It's all very interesting and I'm sure our ancestors knew each  other.

  • Hi Again,

I am reviewing these certificates to add to the information I have on ancestry.com

The last certifiicate I just reviewed shows that my GG parents John Smithwick and Catherine Bradshaw had a daughter,  Rebecca Smithwick , born in 1879 and died. on her batpismal certificate from the pallas green parish are the names Daniel Ryan and Mary Fleming as sponsors.

I don't know if there is a connection there, but I thought I would mention it.

  • Hi!

I am searching for a relative named Mary (Maura) Ryan who was born somewhere between 1925-1928 and  lived in Pallas Green and any of her relatives.  Wish I had more information than that.

Was also curious if any of the Ryans suffered from cancer as I have.

I am new at researching so thank you for any help you can give me.

    Thank you,

    Margaret Ann Ryan Sullivan

  • Hi Karrie,

Catherine Collins is my husband's great grandmother.  Her oldest daughter was Mary O'Brien, my husband's grandmother (before Catherine married Martin McInerney).  I have a couple of pictures of Catherine.  If you email me liz@semlab.com I can send them to you.

How do you connect to Catherine?  Would love to compare notes.

  • Hello Connie O'Dwyer,

I wonder if you might tell me exactly where the Chrissie McInerney house is located in Old Pallas?  There is a possibility in the future that I might visit the area with one of my sister-in-laws who is related to that Ryan family. Her son just married a lovely girl from Athy near Dublin and her parents have extended the hospitality of their bed and breakfast to us. We would like to plan a trip to Ireland sooner rather than later!

Chrissie's Grandmother Bridget Ryan Collins was a sister to my mother-in-law's Grandmother Bessie Ryan Ryan [m. John Ryan from Loughur]. Bessie emigrated to Chicago, Illinois c.1888. Their brothers John Ryan and William Ryan emigrated c.1872 and c.1883, respectively.

I have attached a photo of my late father-in-law in a car sitting outside the Chrissie McInerney house from the 1980's visit when my mother-in-law Eileen Berg Wettroth met Chrissie. I have photos of them together inside the house.

I have also attached an advertisement featuring a house for sale in 2009. From the look of it, I believe this to be Chrissie's house but I am not sure. Could you tell me if my father-in-law/house photo and the house for sale photo are the same dwelling? I believe that house for sale to be located on the L1152, just SW of the intersection with Barna Road?

I would appreciate any help that you or anyone else on the message board might be able to provide.

    Kind regards,

    Kim Curlin Wettroth

  • My 2x great grandmother was Hanora Ryan born in April 1838 in Ireland. I have DNA matches to John Bernard 'Barney Ryan, born in Pallasgreen. Anyone have any Ryan's that emigrated around 1850.
