I am looking for my gggrandparents, Denis Maloney and Margaret Murray. They had 2 children that I know of, Peter, born July 1, 1845 and Mary Maloney born about 1949. Last month I posted a message on the general County Galway message board with details of my family, because I didn't have enough info to go to a parish page. Since then, through my research, I have found a Denis Molony in Griffith's Valuation for your parish and a Martin and Honor Moloney and his family of 11 children in the 1911 Census for Knockavilla ( Mounthazel, Galway). I also found a civil death of a Denis Maloney, age 64, on November 9, 1882, address: Cross , Parish/ District - Mountbellew, married ( no wife listed), occupation landholder, a John Molloy - present at death. Any information connecting me to these families will be greatly appreciated. Please read more info about my family on the County Galway message board titled "Maloney's of Galway" for more information. Many thanks for all your work on this wonderful project.

Hi Jane
Great to hear from you again. I see you have been busy sourcing genealogy information. Well done. Looking at your message, which parish is Denis Molony from? There is a Mounthazel in Menlough, close to Mountbellew.
At present we dont have any volunteers in that area, but I know the parish. I will see what information i can source.
Will get back to you.

Hi Paula,
Thank you for responding to my message, I know you are very busy.
I continue to search for my Maloney ancestors as I try to match Maloney and Murray families in the same townland in Griffiths Valuation and then try to make a connection to the 1901 and 1911 census to the present.
As you can see, I started leaving messages in Parishes where they may have lived. Do you advise that I contiue or will the people helping with the research see that I don't know the parish and work on the name?
Say hello to cousin Carmel Collins for me. My husband and I hope she will visit us in Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts some day.
Many thanks again,
Jane

Hi Jane
I am from Guilka, Menlough on the other side of the parish to your Maloneys. I know Maloneys from there and would like to put you in touch
The Maloneys I know of lived in Cross and I will contact them to see if they are connected or know of your Maloneys
In the meantime you may wish to contact Fr O'Gorman who is the parish priest : http://www.mylocalnews.ie/articles/387/4/menlough-skehanagh-parish-722/menlough-skehana-parish-36960/
I know the Maloneys of my generation emigrated to Chicago in the 1980s and 1990s - some have come back but I think that they went there to uncles who possibly emigrated in the 1960s

Patrick Moloney, my ggf, said he was born 15 Apr 1838 in Woodford, Galway, and that his parents were Michael Moloney and Julia Murphy., and that he was a shoemaker.
He emigrated in to New York 1855 and enlisted in the US Army and was sent to the Washington Territory, and eventually settled in Portland, Oregon. He had a sister Mary who married another army man, Charles Hutscheck, and they settled in Vancouver, Washington which is across the Columbia River from Portland. He spelled his own name Moloney, although it is often found in records as Maloney.
I found a Michael Moloney in Griffiths Valuation in the Parish of Lickmolassy, townland of Gortanummera, and there are Murphys in the area, however I do not know if this Michael married a Murphy or the names of his children. I had my brother (name Moloney) tested for Y-DNA 67 markers, in case anyone wants to compare.

Hi Ann
Looks like that you have some good information there which is not always the case unfortunately with many people
You would be best posting this in the Woodford parish area as then someone from there could possibly be of assistance. Menlough is approx 1.5 hours from Woodford
Hope that yiu can make a connection

Hi Jane,
I'm Maloney from Menlough , I live in Chicago now. I remember hearing of Honour Maloney. My parents are still living in Menlough. Denis Maloney was my farther cousin.
If you're still looking for info I may be able to help.
Take care,

Hi Mary,
Great to hear from you and yes I am still trying to find out where in Couny Galway Denis Maloney and Margaret Murray (my great, great grand parents) came from. I have never been able to connect my Denis Maloney to the Denis, Martin and Honor Maloney I found in Killoscobe in Griffiths valuation and the 1901 census.
It is so great to hear you have your parents in Menlough. I'll give you all the info I know and perhaps they may know the family.
My great grandfather's death certificate and his naturalization papers say he and his parents, Denis Maloney and Margaret Murray, are from County Galway. No town is mentioned.
Denis Maloney married Margaret Murray. They had at least 2 children, Peter Maloney, my great grandfather, and Mary Maloney Goodwin.
Peter Maloney, my great grandfather , a tinsmith, born July 1, 1845, came to Boston through New York about 1863. Mary, born about 1849 also came but not sure when. Have no date of birth on Margaret Murray or Mary Maloney.
Peter Maloney married Sarah Gleason, I think in Boston, some time between 1863 to 1867.
Peter and Sarah had 10 children; Denis Francis, Joseph H, Thomas, Peter J., Michael, Richard, Mary Ann, Sarah Josephine, William Gregory, Stephen Lawrence, all born between 1868 and about 1883 in Boston, MA. The family lived in Charlestown, MA. just across the river from Boston.
Peter and Sarah's oldest son, Denis Francis Maloney, married a Mary Maria McCarthy in Boston in 1889. They had 4 children, Marguerite, Denis F. May Francis and Anna. Denis, Mary and their daughters moved to Harve, Montana about 1912. Denis Francis Maloney was buried in Spokane Washington in 1944.
Peter and Sarah's son Peter J. Maloney, my grandfather, married Catherine McCarthy in Boston in 1864 and had one son Richard Maloney, my father.
I would be so grateful if you could share this with your family to see if they recognize anyone in my family.
Keep in touch.

Hi Jane,
I've asked my parents and other relatives, no one seems to know of a connection. There is a village called Menlo just outside Galway city. It's possible maybe that's where your relatives are from. Have you been over to Ireland to research or has it all been online research?
Martin and Honor (Feeney) Maloney would be my gggrandparents. There's a lady in my parish who's very knowledgeable in local history so I've asked my sister to print off all your information and she can look through it to see if she could possibly make any connection.
Good luck with your continued search. If I get any more information I'll be happy to post.
Take care,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Many thanks for all your efforts in researching my Maloney family. I'll check into Menlo and see if I get any results. I did do some research in Ireland about 7 years ago. I took all the info I found on line, went to several cemeteries, called several people but had no luck. I plan to return to Ireland, hopefully some time next year. By then I hope to have some answers and, at least see the town where they came from. I am anxious to see if your sister finds any information.
Many thanks again. This means so much to me to find some answers.
