I checked Roots Ireland and found four baptismal records for Raftery children in Ballinasloe. I located John, William, Margaret and Bridget. (Delia is a nickname for Bridget). Bridget was in 1832, however, her mother's name was shown as Mary. Maybe that was a mistake? I also noticed that the surname Maher was very prominent with the sponsors. Was that Catherine's maiden name rather than Hardiman?

So very interesting. Delia is my Great Great Grandmother as well and in my research I have often wondered if her mother was actually a Maher? My DNA test shows that I have Maher cousins and no Hardimans.  

My name is Mark Weber. I live in Melbourne Australia. My mother, Joyce Anne Raftery, was born in Sydney 1933, daughter of John Bede and Eileen Raftery.

Her father John Bede was born in Kiama NSW in 1887, the son of John and Anne Raftery.  Her grandfather, John Raftery was born in Dapto New South Wales (NSW) in 1852, son of John and Bridget Raftery.

Her great grandfather, John Raftery was born in Ballinasloe in 1811, the son of Patrick and Ellen Raftery. John and Bridget emigrated to New South Wales on the Champion in 1842 as sponsored 'Bounty Immigrants'
