Hello
I am looking for information of John (Jonathon) Reynard born around 1821 and his wife Mary Christian born between 1821 and 1826 somewhere Wicklow. They must have married there about 1840 just before emigrating to Liverpool as their elder daughter Mary was born therein 1841. They had further children Elizabeth (1850) Philip (1846) and Harriet(1856). According to the 1851 census it says they came from P. of AL** or something similar - very difficult to read. John started as an ag lab and ended up running an eatery in London then disappears before the 1861 census. Mary is latterly a seamstress in Liverpool and dies 1874. They appear to have been protestants so with the name like Reynard may have been a Hugenot. Any help would be appreciated,

Hi Kate
The only birth/baptism match for John Reynard around 1821 is 1818 in Offaly on www.rootsireland.ie/

There are 3 matches for Mary Christian 1821 & 1823 in Wicklow and 1824 in Kildare.

I couldn't find a marriage record but there are 3 public member trees on ancestry.com (Warren, Kerr & Clark) that have their marriage in Liverpool Lancashire 1840 & one has it that John was born in Pofelden but I can't find any such place! The source of this was the 1851 census which I checked but could not make out the entry either.
I couldn't find Mary's birth in Ireland but the trees have it as 1843 Lancashire.

Thanks Col. I'll look into these. I wondered if Pofelden was Port of A..... Is there a port in Wicklow?

I'm no Wicklow expert Kate but not to my knowledge.
Can you post the original entry so others can have a guess at what it means?
