I have found a picture on-line of the gravestone of one of my relatives. I'm trying to find out what the lettering on the stone says. The grave is of Rector Charles Lewis Morgan Jones. It is found in the church graveyard at St. Johns Church of Ireland in Moyne. I found the picture at www.photopol.com/knockananna/knockananna.html. He died 23 Jan 1897 in Shillelagh. My main interest is in finding out if any of his family is buried with him or if the gravestone is only for him. Thank you for your time.

  • I cant help with the headstone request unfortunately, hopefully someone located close to Moyne will spot your post.. I can provide some details of Charles from a biography of Clergy that might be of interest. Charles was born 1822 in Limerick, son of Rev. Samuel Jones, he was educated in Trinity College Dublin (BA and Div Test 1851), and posted to parishes in Wexford, L/Derry, Donegal and Wicklow. He seems to have retired in 1896, and died 23 January 1897. His wife's name was Elizabeth, and there were children.

If you would like more details of the parishes Charles served, let me know and I'll post more info.

p.s. based on the BMD Index it seems Elizabeth's maiden name was Samuels, and theiy married in 1856 in Rathdown district, which covers parts of north Co. Wicklow as well as part of south east Co. Dublin. In case you wish to order a cert, the references are : 1856 / Rathdown / Volume 9 / Page 599
