I am looking for a brith record (or any other information) on my great-great grandfather Patrick. S. Hogan.

Born May 1853

Married in Boston Massachusetts, August 29th, 1885 to Mary Jeanette Callahan. She went by "Jennie". The marriage record indictaes that he was born in "Ireland" and she in Prince Edward Island. It also indcates his parents names, Daniel and Eliza.

Their first child, also Jennie, was born in Philadelphia in 1886.

I found a possible marriage record for Daniel Hogan and Eliza Mills, Patrick's parents, in the"Ireland Marriages, 1619-1898" index on the FamilySearch.org website. Marriage date was January 19, 1847 in Gorey, Wex, Ire

I have never been able to determine what Patrick's middle name was, but he always used the initial "S".

Many thanks to anyone who could assist me in finding some information.

    Hi Heather,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking for Patrick?s baptismal cert in Inch parish as confirmation that he came from there? Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be an idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Inch (Gorey) is part of the Catholic parish of Arklow. For these records follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Wexford&parish=Arklow&churchid=457

For Church of Ireland records check:

http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.  The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf

I hope that this is helpful.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you Emma.

Since this post I have found quite a bit of information about my Hogan family - though still searching for parish.

I have recently found the obituary for Daniel Hogan; father of the above mentioned Patrick. He died in Southbridge, Massachusetts. In it, it indicates that Daniel was born in KILKENNY, Ireland on May 21, 1821. It is not specific if the County or City - I've searched quite a bit of the recently released Catholic registers, but have not found records of Daniel's birth, marriage, or Patrick's birth.

Daniel also had a brother John, born 1808.

Their parents were Patrick Hogan and Bridget Fitzpatrick.

Daniel's wife was Elizabeth Breen, parents Edward Breen and Winfred Coogan.

    Many thanks,
