I am looking for information on Patrick O'Brien, born 22 April 1889 in Dunlavin, County Wicklow, Ireland. He immigrated to the US in 1907 with his younger brother John O'Brien. Their parents were Patrick O'Brien and Annie McGuirk. Any help in finding Patrick's birth record, and any information on his parents, would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Brandt

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Below is a link to the image of Patrick O'Brien's birth record. There were 72 Patrick O'Brien births registered civilly in Ireland in 1889. I also located the 1888 marriage record for the parents which was in Dublin. You will have to sign-in to see the records.

I have not yet found the family in the 1901 census.

  • Patrick's birth is included in the civil records on the free IrishGenealogy website - with date of birth an exact match and surnames as a variant 'Bryen' to the details you have. Baltinglass was the civil registration district and Dunlavin a subdistrict of this, and you can view the page from the original birth register - Patrick Bryen, dob 22nd April 1889, Dunlavin (click the image link). Patrick's father is shown as a railway porter, and the birth was registered by the child's grandfather John McGuirk on the 24th of April, using his mark.

  • I believe this is the same family on the 1901 census, living at Clonard/Cappaloughlin townland in Queen's County (now Co. Laois). Patrick's father has been promoted to signalman.

  • That's exactly them, thank you Shane and Roger! Patrick b1889 said his last residence in Ireland was in Mountrath, Queen's County, so this matches up perfectly. Thank you so so much!
