I am researching my 8th Great Grandmother, Janette McPherson.  My research at this point states that she was born in 1689 in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland.  Are there any documents or archives where I can confirm this information.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your message and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

As you can see from the link below, Bray is a Civil Parish in Co. Wicklow:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2662&civilparish=Bray&citycounty=Wicklow

As the church records do not start early enough to enable you to find a baptismal or marriage record for Janette, you could try to search for the surname in general, as McPherson is not a very common name. Any resulting finds will add to what you know and could help with later searches.

There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.

You could also have a look at page 75 of the document linked below, some addresses may prove useful: http://www.crossborder.ie/pubs/localhistory.pdf

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search
