I am searching for information on my 3rd great-grandparents, Alexander Stewart and Julia Hegarty, who lived in Bray around 1850 I have no records of their birth, marriage or death - all I have gleaned is from family trees on ancestry.com and family search.org.
Their daughter Julia left for Australia as an assisted immigrant, on the "Golden Era", in 1855. The ship's record says that her mother Julia was dead by then, and her father Alexander was still living in Bray.
I do know what he did for a living and cannot find him in any directories, etc.
Perhaps someone locally might know of this family.

I hope I can be of some help, love the name tag by the way, that's from David Bowie isn't it?. Anyway, let's begin. At that time (1850), NORTH of the river Dargle which flows through Bray was considered part of South Co. Dublin and SOUTH of the river was in Co. Wicklow. So, it would be useful to know which part your ancestors may have lived in when looking through loooonnng lists.
At present, there are 5 "Stewart" families living in Bray today according to the Eircom Irish telephone directory. I've attempted some searches for you by first looking at the Census in 1901 and 1911 depending on how old/young your ancestor was. You can see for yourself here : http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie There were a good few "Stewarts" around Wicklow, but only one in Bray for that time frame, a Charles Stewart, age 15 living on Sidmonton Avenue who was a son of Mary Alice Stewart aged 53 (1901 Census). Perhaps a decendant. There were also a few Alexanders in Dublin and one in Wicklow town that did not fit the assumed age group of having had a child in 1850 though could still be ancestors, but there was an Alexander living in Co. Antrim aged 74 from the 1901 Census, that you might consider. I did not come accross a "Julia Hegarty" or "Julia Stewart in those census. I tried a few more searches for you and came up with a couple of websites you might like to try and also found a list of the stewart line from an old book, so I'll try to attach that now:
