My great grandfather, Archibald Edward Delargey was born in 1843 in Ballymena, we believe. Although the towns of Cushendun and Cushedall were often spoken about by family members as well in the early years.
His parents were Patrick Delargey and Mary McLean.
Archibald had a brother called Neal / Neil who left Ireland with Archie to travel to NZ.
I have found records of their UK Ireland MAsters and MAtes certificates which state birth place as Cushendale.
We have tried to locate records of his baptism, shipping list and also records of his parents but no such luck.
I would very appreciate any support that can be given

You don?t say what denomination Archie was but I assume RC.
Cushendall is in the parish of Layd. It?s baptism records start in 1838 but there is a gap 1844 to 1858, so if Archie or his brother were born in the gap, you obviously won?t find their baptisms there. I don?t think the records pre 1858 are on-line. However there are copies of them in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast and also the National Library in Dublin. Both will involve a personal visit to look them up. Or you could write to the parish priest who should have the originals but I can?t guarantee you?ll get a reply. Some parishes get rather a lot of genealogical requests and not all have the resources to deal with them.
Ballymena is in the parish of Kirkinriola. Their baptisms start in 1836. They are on-line (1836 ? 1899) on the rootsireland site and on the UHF site (both pay to view).
Be aware that RC baptism information from that period is pretty limited. All you will get is the childs name, the parents names and their 2 sponsors. No addresses, occupations etc. Many early RC records are in Latin.

i did write to the RC parish of Ballymena and did get a reply. The priest there is a Delargey but not the same family as Archie. He seemed to know that there was another Delargey line but did not give me any hints as to how to locate them.
Archie's grandson, was a Cardinal in the Catholic Church, the second ever New Zealander to be awarded such a position. He was Reginald Delargey and is now dead. He used to get permission to stop over in Ireland with his Antrim cousins on his way back from Rome to NZ. So I will try family first to see if I can get any more hints.
sometimes, Geneology is liking looking for a needle in a hay stack and other times, the puzzle just comes together and all is revealed. So here is hoping. All my family lines trace back to Ireland. Only the Cavan and Antrim connections are proving difficult. Limerick, Roscommon, Waterford, Clare. Galway lines have all revealed the Irish connections. So I am lucky in that respect.
