Hello everyone, my name is John Doyle.
My Great,Great Grandparents were Peter and Elizabeth Doyle, marrried in Rathdrum in 1871. Elizabeth nee Lee, was living in Ballinaclash, Peter in Ballinacarrig at the time of their marriage. In 1872 they emigrated to Canada.
On their Marriage Certificate Peter's father, my Great, Great, Great Grandfather is given as Daniel Doyle, a Mason from Boley. This is/was Boley in the Parish of Aghowle. He was married to Francis nee Haskins. I have no birth date for Daniel Doyle's birth. Roughly calculating dates from his son Peter Doyle's marriage, he could have been born as late as 1830, but probably much ealier! I have no BMD for Daniel or Francis!
Apart from my GG Grandfather Peter Doyle, I have only been able to establish one other child, Peter's sister Catherine Doyle. Her married name was Catherine Fenlon, she married Thomas Fenlon and they lived in Coolkenno. In 1916 she gives her address as Coolkenno, Tullow in the Barony of Shillelagh, Parish Aghowle, in the Townland of Boley. Spoken family history has it that there were many more brothers and sisters.
Any information on Daniel and Francis Doyle of Boley, or any other family members will be very gratefully received. Thank you. Spoken family history also has it that they are buried in Coolkenno, but I do not know how, or where to look, or indeed if it is correct, although very possible.
Thank you for reading my posting.

John:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out! I checked Roots Ireland for Daniel Doyle baptisms from 1820-1840 and there were 18 records. However, when I narrowed the search to Clonmore RC parish (which corresponds to Aghgowle civil parish, I received one record from 1821 which is below. I also searched from 1840-1860 for Doyle baptisms in Clonmore father Daniel and mother's surname Haskins and found three records: John 1846, Patrick 1852 and William 1855. Possibly, Peter was born before 1840.
The National Library of Ireland effective July 8th is placing all RC parish registers online for free searching. I would review the Clonmore records which start in 1819. Clonmore is in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.
I also located a 1901 census record in Boley for a James Doyle who was 88. Good chance he was an older brother of Daniel. See link below.

Roger, thank you for your welcome to the site, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time and the excellent information you have provided me with, and so quickly! Very kind of you, and much appreciated.
I have researched Peter Doyle's date of birth from a number of sources, and they are nearly all contradictory:- In the Canadaian Passenger List of 1872 it gives his age as 25 yrs, so birth 1847; 1881 Census Canada: 37yrs, so birth 1844; 1891 Census 47 years, so birth 1844; 1901 Census gives date of birth given: 17.12.1842 or 1842 (last letter unclear on Census) age stated as 59 yrs; 1911 Census 72years, so birth1839. No wonder I'm confused!!
Do you or anyone reading this have and suggestions of cemeteries and graveyards for this area where I may, possibly, be able to find resting places for my family if I visit Ireland? I hope to as soon as I can get together a list of places to visit!
Peter Doyle married a Elizabeth Lee. Her father was William Lee, a miner. Her mother is given on Roots Ireland - Church Marriage Transcription- as Joanna Stringer. Maria Lee was a witness, as was William Lee (her father, brother, cousin?). On this listing there was a transcription error where Francis Haskins was named as Francis Askran. I have not been able to find anything anywhere of a Joanna Stringer, so will not know if this has been transcribed correctly until the RC parish registers go online next week. Any ideas of how I can research William Lee further as I have no idea where he and his daughter Elizabeth Lee (my Great, Great Grandmother who married Peter Doyle) lived, or where Eliabeth was born?
Conscious that I am asking a lot, but any help with these brickwalls will be very grateully received.
Very many thanks.

A few comments. Ballinaclash townland is in Ballykine civil parish very close to Rathdrum parish. The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballykine parish does not show a William Lee but does show a Joseph Lee in Ballinaclash. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/wicklow/ballykine.htm
I would look in the Rathdrum RC records for Lees.

Very many thanks for all your help.
Apologies for using Senior and Junior, have used these for simplicity.
I have been able to find in the Catholic Parish Records for Rathdrum a Baptism for a child with the parents William Lee and Mary/Maria Reid in 1869. From other records I have researched, I have strong reason to belive that this is the son of William Lee (Senior) (and the brother of Elizabeth Lee) as their abode is given as Ballinaclash, and this is where my G.Great Grandmother Elizabeth Lee was living at the time of her marriage, and where her first child was born. The dates tally within 2 years. I have found a marriage entry for a William Lee and Mary/Maria Reid in the Civil Marriage Registration for 18969 Shillelagh.
- Can anyone please tell me which parish I should search under for Shillelagh? I am hoping that if I can find the marriage entry it will confirm or deny William Lee (Jnr) being Elizabeth's brother. It may also give me a clue as to William and Joanna's location.
- I still do not have a clue where to search for William Lee and his wife Joanna Lee nee Stringer. On their daughters marriage certificate it states that he is a miner. Are there any mines in the Ballinaclash area? Any ideas?
- I am planning to visit the Clonmore parish area in October. Could anyone please give me a list of Churchyards/cemeteries I can visit to look for possible headstones?
Thanking you in anticipation. Very many thanks.

Civil Marriage Registration date should read 1869.

My name is Kevin Lee. I am currently writing the social history of the Fitzwilliam Estate. This work includes a large section on assisted famine emigration to Canada. My work has led to close examination of estate rentals and various estate undertaken studies of poverty stricken townlands such as Boleyn.
By a strange quirk of fate my great grandfather was William Lee of Ballinaclash who married Mary Reid from Kilacloran in the the church of Annacurra in the year 1869. I feel that there is much (as cousins) that we can share.
