I would like to know the full name of my great great grandmother.  Family history says her name was Margaret, but does not give her maiden name.  She might have died in Ireland before her son John's marriage.

John's father was Richard Kehoe (b 1835), a fisherman, who was alive when the marriage took place of his son, John to Ellen Culliton on 19 Oct 1884.  I do not know the name of John's mother and hoped that it might be in the marriage records.  Family history indicates it was a Roman Catholic marriage.  John was born 31 May 1864 and died 2 Jun 1931.  John was my mother's grandfather (her father's father).  I have very little other information.

John immigrated to the USA in 1887 or 1889 (according to the 1900 and 1910 census), living in Cleveland Ohio.  He became a blacksmith when he came to the USA.  He may have lived in New York for some time immediately after arrival in the USA.

John's wife, Ellen (Culliton) Kehoe (b 9 Sep 1862 in Neemstown, Wexford) and son William Joseph Kehoe (b 25 Jul 1886 probably in Mulrankin, Wexford) arrived in the USA in 1890, a year after John, according to the 1910 census.  William was born in Ireland and all the younger children were born in Cleveland Ohio.  Ellen had 12 children, 8 of whom were living according to the 1910 census.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish for Mulrankin civil parish is Kilmore  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0599   Kilmore records are not on Roots Ireland but I did find the record below on Find My Past.  The only flaw is that the first n ame is not Margaret. I would scan the register and see what you can find. It is also possible that the mother was from a different/nearby parish and the marriage ceremony would have been held in that church.

The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Mulrankin parish shows a James Kehoe and a Mary Kehoe. Maybe James was the father of Richard?

  • Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I will search more on the first link you provided, which does contain the baptism records for Ellen Culliton and her brother John, showing parents as Guili??? (William) Culliton and Maria (Mary) Hanlon.  I noted that Ellen's sponsors are shown as well, and I have the correct birth dates for both of the children.  One of the godparents appears to be Richard Devereaux, and there is a Devereaux in our family tree.  I'm going to look at that closer.  I will also look at the second link provided.  I was disappointed that there are not records to marriages as late as 1884 in the first link.

    Thanks again for this information.

  • Roger,

Thanks so much for finding this record and for pointing me to this resource.  I've been busy going through the William Culliton and Mary Hanlon children baptismal records and haven't yet ventured to the other resource.  I guess I had all the information correct on their marriage now that I see the actual civil record.  Thanks again!
