Searching Clinton/Clynton and Daly from Taghmon

For more records on the family you could try searching in church records in Taghmon. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. Civil registration became mandatory in Ireland in 1864 so you may also be able to find records relevant to the family in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

With regards to tracing John and Mary?s parents, you will probably have to find their birth records. If they were born in Taghmon, you may be lucky as records there begin in 1781.

My family also came from Taghmon Parish, from a townland called Rathcorbally. In the neighbouring townland; Balreagh, there was a family called Clinton, sadly all now passed away. As a child i remember my great uncle was very friendly with one of them, i think his name was Peter Clnton. a possible family connection. I also had a great aunt called Mary Daly,who would have been born in the 1880s> it may be possible that your Mary Daly was from the previous generation. I have traced my family back to my great great grandfather; John Daly who lived in Rathcorbally in the 1860s. I have been unable to find any records yet for his siblings.
