I am Mary Hand's great great granddaughter. My records show she was born in Ireland in about 1806-1807; she was tried on 18/08/1829 in Mullingar  for stabbing Michael Galvin and sentenced to death on the first Saturday in January 1830. This was commuted to transportation and she was sent to Kingstown. A record of a Mary Hand from Westmeath is found in Kilmainheim gaol. She was then transported for life to Australia and left on the ship, Forth 2 in 1830 for Sydney. Here in Sydney she married a free settler and had at least 2 daughters, 17 grandchildren including my grandfather. I would love details of the Hand family remaining, any birth details and information on Peter Hand who was sentenced for the same crime.
