I have recently found information which listed Westmeath as the place of birth for my ancestor, Katharine (Catherine) Hughes, born around 1800. She married Michael Smith (estimated date about 1828 or 1829). They had 6 known children: Mary Ann, born about 1830; Matthew, born about 1832; Margaret, born about 1834; Michael, born about 1839; and twins Christopher and Peter born about 1843-1844.
Michael and Katharine (also known as Kate) emigrated to the United States, sailing from Liverpool on the Montezuma and arriving in New York City on 11 March 1850. With them were all of the above listed children, except Mary Ann, who arrived earlier (date unknown).
After several years in New York City, they moved to Sullivan County, NY, where they were farmers.
I would greatly appreciate any help in learning more about this family, their ancestors and the parish that they are from.

On the 1930 U.S. census, Annie Jones Cunningham, daughter of Catherine Hughes and Michael Smith, listed her mother's place of birth as Naid, Ireland. Per other information on Mary Ann Smith, she was born in County Westmeath. I cannot locate a town by the name of NAID on the maps that I have, nor find it through Google. I am assuming that it is misspelled. Not knowing the Irish language, I cannot determine what the correct spelling might be. I am sure that it sounded like Naid to the census taker and was probably something else. I would appreciate any help that you may have to offer. Thank you!
I have found both Hughes and Smith families in the 1830 Irish Tithe Applotment Books for the town of Kinnegad, Parish Killucan, Westmeath. Would Kinnegad be a possibility?
