My name is Valeria Lennon, Im from Argentina and Im looking for information of the great grandfather of my father. He was Edward Lennon.

Edward Lennon had been born in Westmeath in 1819.  He married Rose Kenny in Ballinacarrigy

In 1842 at the age of 23 he departed with his family (with his wife Rose Kenny and his son John) on the Countess of Durham for Buenos Aires in Argentina.  He could still recall in later life vivid details of the voyage and of old Captain Miller and his thirteen fellow passengers.  

Edward made money in the tanning and salt industry and this enabled him to become a substantial landholder in the cattle ranching area north of Buenos Aires.  His brother Patrick joined him from Ireland in 1862.  In time Edward became Eduard and his son John Don Juan as the family became more Spanish in its outlook.Eduard died on his property in 1890.

    There are 2 baptism records of Edward Lennon in Westmeath in 1817 on www.rootsireland.ie/

    I am not sure if it the same record twice rootsireland charges to view the records but they will have the parish and MAYBE both or 1 parent's name to help you go back further

    Hi Col,

    Perhaps is better to look for the records of my great grand father John.

    John Lennon borned in 1842 in Ireland. He died in Argentina in 1907.

    father............Edward Lennon borned in 1819 in Westmeath. He died in Argentina in 1890.

    mother..........Rose Kenny borned in 1819 in Ballinacarrigy Co Westmeath. She died in Argentina in 1879.

    sister............ Mary

    Edward and Rose marrried in Ballinacarrigy 1841

    In 1843 Edward, Rose and his sons John and Mary left Ireland and came to Argentina in the Countess of Durham.

    Thanks for your help! My father Juan Carlos (Charlie) died five months ago when I was visiting Ireland for the first time. It was important for him to get in contact with his roots before he died.

  • I had a look for John with those parents but didn't find him I'm afraid Valeria.

    Could he have been born in Argentina?
