Hello and it's great to be on this site and in the Tallow Message Board.
My family history involves Patrick Hayes of Ballyduff (Garrybrittas) and Ellen O'Brien of Tallow.
The only history I have of Ellen is that she was married to Patrick on 9th Feb 1864 at the Catholic Church in Tallow by P. Byrne. Witnesses were Michael Roche and Mary Mahoney.
Ellen was born circa 1842 and her father was John O'Brien a Labourer.
Patrick Hayes was from the large Hayes family in Garrybrittas, CastleRichard. His father was Thomas Hayes who was a farmer. Patrick worked at the Monastery in Glencairn and was known as "Tuck", after Friar I suspect!!! He was well known to go to Tallow on Sunday for Mass, then the pub and his doting donkey & carriage would carry him home safely comotose..... a family tale, not sure of its accuracy!!
Patrick and Ellen are my Great Grandparents and I know nothing of John O'Brien and his wife, Mary I believe.
If anyone has any information of the O'Briens or Briens or Breens it would be lovely to hear from you. I have visited Tallow and it's a lovely place. Thank you again.

My apologies for the very late response. It's a pity that the parents' names (or at least the fathers') are not included on that marriage record as there are so many variables in trying to suss out the correct Ellen. There are 14 baptisms for an Ellen born between 1837 and 1847 with a father first name John and these are available either on rootsireland.ie or the originals:
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0735 - going through them and seeing the sponsors names may help you
Best wishes

Hello Clare, thank you so much for your response. it is very kind of you.
On the wedding certificate of 9/2/1864 it states:
Patrick Hayes Full Age Bachelor Labourer Garrybrittas Father= Thomas Hayes Farmer
Ellen O'Brien Full Age Spinster - Tallow Father= John O'Brien Labourer
I will take a look a the births you have mentioned on the link.
Yes the other names on the documents are always a help. Especially with so many O'Briens and Hayes's.
Thanks once more Clare.
