My maternal Irish grandmother and I were inseperable until my teenage years. She was married to my English Grandfather and talk about the "old country" was about England and not Ireland. I have recently become obsessed with knowing about my Irish heritage. I have so many charactoristics that are typical of the Irish. I was a musician, an artist and a writer. I have also raised sheep and spun wool which I knitted into traditional garments. Here is what I know about my matriarchal history: My grandmother was born in Tallow in 1888 ( though her grave here in the US says 1890), to Catherine and Michael Dalton. Her maiden name was Donovan before her marriage. I believe her father's name was Cornelius. In the 1901 census my grandmother is listed as being 11 and living on Barrack Street with her widowed mother and 2 sisters, Jane and Bridie. By the next census in 1911 my grandmother had already emmigrated to America. My Aunt Bridie was still in Ireland and came later. I don't know what happened to Jane. My greatgrandmother Catherine remarried James O Flynn in 1901 and had a son Michael. That is all I know and want so much to know more. My greatgrandmother was a nurse and so is my daughter. I want to know where my abilities were inherited from.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located the 1885 church marriage record for Michael and Catherine on Roots Ireland. The marriage was in the Knockanore RC parish. I could not find the civil record of marriage. I did find a baptismal record for Mary November 17, 1888.(see below)

Thank you so much!!!
Is there anyway I can go back one more generation to Mary (Donavan) Dalton's mother? I am most curious about her. Also how can I find out if I have anyone I might be related to who didn't emmigrate to America?

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Tallow civil parish shows a Cornelius Donovan in Kilmore West townland. Possibly this is the record for the father of Catherine Donovan. Below are the online parish registers for Tallow and Knockanore RC parishes. I would review the registers to see if you can find family members.
