I am trying to clarify the family details of Pierce POWER. He was born about 1870
MARRIAGE: 14 February 1893 at the RC Parish Curch Stradbally, Kilmacthomas,Waterford TO Sarah Anne ANDERSON . The marriage record says Pierce aged 21 a Farmer of Garranturton and that his Father was Patrick also a farmer . Sarah Anne was aged 19 a lady of Stradbally and her father was John ANDERSON and R.I.C. Sergeant.
Witnesses: Thomas McArty and Mary A Coffey
DEATH of Pierce POWER: Pierce drowned 5 September 1895 at Ballyvooney Cove, Stradbally, Waterford. His boat overturned in rough seas durig a regatta.
I believe there was a very large funeral with hundreds of attendees and he was interred in Ballylaneen.
I would like to clarify who his parents were and also any reports of the Regatta incident and the following funeral and anything about where he is buried.
I have found very likely brth record :24 May 1879 , Pierce POWER born Garranturtan (Civil Register: District of Bonmahon in the Union of Kilmachthomas, Waterford) . Parents are Patrick POWER (Garranturtan) Farmer and Mother Catherine POWER formerly SULLIVAN.
I believe they wre land owners but can't find much about them .
Hope someone can help

Erin,
Attached report in the Waterford Chronicle date September 14th 1895 may relate to your query.
It is at the top of Page - Column 4 - Not 3.
I will check for land ownership in Griffith's Valuation and get back to you.

Erin,
Attached marriage record for Patrick Power to Catherine Sullivan - Widow - Patrick's father is recorded as Pierce Power and the address for Patrick is Lisard. According to Griffith's valuation - Lisard is a townland of 76 acres and in the DED of Carrigcastle. No detail of land ownership for Pierce Power in that townland.
Subscription site www.rootsireland.ie has a baptism record of a Patrick Power in St. Patrick's Church- County Waterford - March 31st 1851. Parents: Pierce Power and Catherine Kiervick (Kervick - Waterford - MacLysaght). There is no indication that they are the parents of Patrick Power who married Catherine Sullivan. The name - Pierce - Pierse is common in County Waterford.
The 1901 Irish census may be of assistance to you, where there are a number of families named "Power.

Thank you for all your help. I am processing all that information now. I had the marriage for Catherine Sullivan to Patrick Power , So MANY Powers. .....
This must have been a well known family looking at the size of attendence for Pierce Power funeral. I have another question , do you have any idea what/where Grouselodge/Grouse Lodge was. Thomas McCarthy had a number of his children born there . I imagine it is somewhere about Garranturton, but was it a Place or a Building?
Still looking for what happened to Catherine Power (nee Sullivan) and where she came from. I am trying to sort out who had the land , did she bring it with her to marriage or was it Power land. Still I will keep on searching.
I am looking through all available records now so maybe it will become clearer or maybe not with the number of Powers in Waterford.
Thank you again

Erin,
I have not found any record to indicate that the McCarthy or Sullivan had land in Garryanturton in the 1850's. Thomas McCarty married Catherine Sullivan in Stradbally on February 21st 1860. Witnesses: John Slattery and Alice Harney.
Children recorded in Subscription Site www.rootsireland.ie - Mary, July 14th 1861, Thomas, March 26th 1864, Ellen, November 23rd 1865, Agnes, November 4th 1868.
In the Civil Birth record for Agnes - Her father - Thomas - is recorded as a "Gamekeeper".
In relation to Grouse Lodge you should contact the Waterford Archives, as the Landed Estates at NUI Galway do not classify it as an Estate. If you Google it, you will see it is North West of Ballylanneen old church and graveyard.
Catherine Sullivan's father is recorded as "Daniel" and there are two "Catherine Sullivan" - 1844 and 1845 baptised in Waterford City whose father is recorded as "Daniel Sullivan". It is a possibility that one of them marrried Thomas McCarthy?

Erin,
In regard to Thomas McCarthy, Senior - Subscription site www.rootsireland.ie has a record of the death of a Thomas McCarthy, aged 35 years, married, farmer at "Ganantuilin" on October 28th 1868. Cause of death typhus. Death reported by Bridget Fluin. You will need to have the land records for Garranturton checked in the Land Registry for ownership c1851 when the area was surveyed by Griffith's Agents.
The civil record is not complete on irishgenealogy.ie
