I looked at the Tithe Applotment listings for Co. Waterford. I focused on John Colberts since the oldest son of Thomas was named John likely after his father's father. There were 7 replies.

I would use these records as possible leads for determining where your Colberts lived. You may want to look at www.rootsireland.ie  You have to pay to view records but you should be able to find out if there are records for the 1842 John and 1844 Catherine.

  • Hello there and greetings from Waterford on the sunny south east coast of Ireland.  I had a look on www.rootsireland.ie website and am happy to say that I found baptisms of John (1842) and Catherine (1844) Colbert, children of Thomas Colbert and Honor Curren.  The were baptised in the RC parish of Lismore which is in the west of the county.  I also located the marriage record of Thomas and Honor in 1841 which was found in the RC parish of Cappoquin, which adjoins Lismore.

The town of Lismore is quite historic and very picturesque.  The very impressive Lismore Castle, belonging to the Duke of Devonshire, is situated there.  The nearby smaller town of Cappoquin is also picturesque and sits in the foothills of the knockmealdown mountains.  Both towns are on the banks of the Blackwater river.

Should you wish me to explore the further details of the records ie. specific dates of marriage and baptisms, godparents& witnesses, possible addresses etc and other records feel free to contact me at waterfordorigins@gmail.com

I'm always happy to help the Wandering Waterfordians find their way home!

    Good wishes to you
