UPDATE 11 NOV 2020:
My Catherine Daly was born in Ballymacmague, Dungarvan, Waterford on 2 May 1841.
Her father was Laurence Daly and her mother was Honora Quin. Recent newspapers going on line for Yonkers NY, showed three obits and in the obits it states who the siblings were.
Catherine's siblings were Alice Daly Spratt, Owen Daly and Mary Daly, Laurence and Eugene. Alice, Mary, Owen and Catherine all immigrated to Yonkers NY.
After being lucky enough to find the obits, I was able to find all of the baptisms for the siblings and my Catherine.

I've been searching for my CATHERINE DALY's origins for a long time without much luck, because I didn't have parent's names or birth place.
I recently found her death certificate from Yonkers, NY and on it are her parent's names and "Waterford". I have no idea where in Waterford, whether county or city, nor do I know what Parish it would be. There is also some confusion on the date of birth and I'm not sure which is right. Especially knowing death certificates can sometimes be wrong.
On all the census records I've got, it has her birth as 1844, 1845, 1845, 1847 - kind of all over the place, so I'm not sure her year of birth is the right one, she might have shaved some years off when she told her daughter how old she was - or it could be right.
I've looked on the Catholic Parish records for all dates between 1845 and 1849, but there are so many Parishes, I haven't found her. I've also had someone check rootsireland's index for me but they came up with nothing. No Catherine, no parents. Is there any place else I could check?
It's CATHERINE DALY (aka DALEY) born 14 Aug 1849 parents, JOHN DALEY (aka DALY) and mother ALICE WELCH (possibly WELSH or WALSH - it was kind of hard to read). It just states "Waterford" Ireland as place of birth.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Sherrie

Please see original message from February and the numerous comments. No baptismal record found in Waterford on Roots Ireland.

Thank you Roger. I was just hoping that someone in the Waterford area might know of a library, museum, church, what ever that might help in narrowing down a location now that I at least have "Waterford".
I'm forever grateful for the help you have already given.

Someone may jump in at some point. I try to make sure that our other volunteers are aware of any prior background when a message is posted. This is a long shot but the Griffiths Valuation was conducted in 1849. If the father of Catherine was leasing land then he is likely one of the eighteen John Dalys listed below. The parishes are spread out but it does give you some leads. Not sure if I mentioned this before but you may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

Thank you Roger. I'll check these out and although I've not done the autosomal yet, I'm hoping to shortly.

Sherrie,
I just came across your post. I am a Daly in Horsham, PA. I am related to Dalys from Abbeyside, Knockateemore and Ballynacourty. Have you had luck with your search? Have you had DNA testing?
My family's tree in Ancestry is under my sister's account as Maggie Dalys Family Tree. The Catherine Daly of which I am aware was born in 1849, in Abbeyside, to John Daly and Johanna Kiely. However, a cousin of mine who is a better genealogist than I, believes that some of "our" Dalys made it to Yonkers! Very interested to know if you have any additional information now.

Hi Chuck,
I haven't had ANY luck. I did do a DNA kit and do have it on Gedmatch, it's A705979 - the ONLY headway I made was for a Catherine's marriage record; there is a Margaret Daley who is her witness. Hope we turn o ut to match.

Sherrie,
Just ran a comparison - not a match. Of course, if you are going back five or more generations, the randomness of DNA inheritance could end up with no matching segments, even f there was a relationship. On the otherhand, a match would confirm it.
Wish you luck searching. When I his the brick wall, I wait a year and sign up again on Roots Ireland and hope they have added records.
Have you signed up for the Irish DNA Registry on Facebook?
