Hello. My great-great-aunt Anastasia Power/s might have been born around Kilmacthomas around 1872. Parents Patrick Powers and Bridget Kane. Have various ages for her in US Census records.
Siblings I KNOW of: John Joseph b. 1873 Richard b. 1871 James J. b. 1870
Have heard there might have been a sibling Patrick who stayed in Ireland.
The above four children said they were from the Dungarvan area.......and immigrated to New York 1888-1891.
Is it possible that the family did not STAY in one spot, so the baptisms of siblings could have been in other places within Waterford at that time period? Or perhaps new RC Chapels were built in the countryside?

Below is the March 13th 1872 civil birth record for Anastasia Power. The family lived in Ballykeroge townland in Kilrossanty civil parish. You will have to sign-in to see the record. (By the way, Anastasia Power was a very common name in that area).
I looked on Roots Ireland and located four other siblings: Richard 1860 John 1864 not given 1866 (assume name was given later) and Edmond 1868. It is possible that there are other records where the mother was shown as Bridget Power and they would not show up on my search using Bridget Kane.

Good morning, Roger, and THANK YOU for your response! If this is a match for our Powers family, it would clear up the mystery of how Edward/Edmund was a family name!
Do you have any idea why Anastasia was a common name in that area? Is there any historical connection? I had always thought of it as a Russian name!
In New York right now, local towns are "celebrating Saint Patrick" with parades every weekend- despite the snow and frigid temperatures which have just visited (after a spring-like February)!

I live near Baltimore so like you we are waiting to see how many inches of snow we get. Current forecast is nine inches.
Don't know the reason for the popularity of Anastasia. I know the name was prominent in Wexford also. St. Anastasia was not Irish but from Serbia in the third century so no clue there.
