Hi I'm trying to locate some information on my GGGgrandfather Edward Towel/Towell
Born I think circa 1803 married Jane/Johanna McGrath in Lismore 1852, 2 sons John 1853, Daniel 1854 (my GGgrandf born in New Street) If I'm correct I found a death record for Edward 1875 in New Street Lismore and Jane 1878 same address.
If anyone has any information regarding this couple I would much appreciate it as I've come to a dead end and its very frustrating
Many Thanks
Catherine Towell Rice

Dear Catherine
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
As you can see from the link below, Lismore and Mocollop is a Civil Parish in Co. Waterford:
Church of Ireland records begin in 1693 while the records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish begin in 1820. Have you exhausted the sites listed below in your search so far?
There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.
You could have a look at the Tithe Applotment Records 1823-1837 and the Griffith?s Valuation 1847-1864. Even though these only list the head of household, it can be useful information:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites that may be helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too
The National Library of Ireland: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
Irish Genealogy Tool kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search

I am also looking for my great grandfather Patrick Towell who with his mother and siblings emigrated to Wales sometime in the 1840’s or 1850’s. On Welsh Census forms he states he came from Waterford or Lismore. Family history gives him from Cork and I know that at one time a part of Lismore was in Cork and part in Waterford. I have tried tracing the family without luck so far. He and his brother ,Denis, give their occupation as “shoemaker”. Common first names in the family, in his and succeeding generations are Mary, William, Denis, Patrick/Patricia, Cuthbert, Margaret.
Perhaps, other relatives remained in Ireland. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Patricia Thomas.
