Greetings!
I am hoping to learn more about my greatgreat grandparents who came from the Dungarvan/Abbeyside area.
Michael Fitzgerald, b. 1832 +/- 2 yrs his father thought to be Bartholomew Fitzgerald , mother Mary Veale or possibly Neill . Baptised Oct 29, 1833 at Abbeyside Parrish. Griffiths shows Bartholomew lived in Waterford, Decies within Drum, Aglish, Graigue. Michael died in Wisconsin Mar 14, 1910.
Johanna Power, b. 1839 +/- 2 years her father Phillip Power and mother Catherine Keily, baptised in Abbeyside on May 7, 1840. Griffiths shows a Phillip Power lived on Bridge street, Abbeyside. Johanna died in April 1899 in Wisconsin.
Though they came from the same region of Ireland, my greatgreat grandparents were about 7-10 years apart and met in Massachusetts, USA. They married in Boston in 1855 and went on to have 10 children.
I would love to know more about my relatives siblings, family that remained in Ireland. I will be visiting the area in mid April and hope to find records, be able to locate their homeplace, search for gravesites, et cetera.
I would appreciate any help from local sources. Thank You! Nancy Eister

Thank you very much, Col!
I have so many questions.. perhaps I should join Rootsireland.ie. I am on ancestry.com with a global membership for this month, but it has not yielded me any baptism, marriage or death records from the Dungarvan area in those years.
Are you familiar with the area enough to know if Abbeyside, Kilrossanty, and Clashmore are all close enough to each other to be viable baptism locations for people who were probably travelling by cart? or do you have a good source for placenames in the Dungarvan area?
The siblings dates and names sound right , and I am so grateful to have some leads to pursue. Maybe there are death records for Bartholomew, John, or Catherine. I would love to encounter an Irish relative.
What you say about no Fitzgeralds in Waterford in 1851 , then a thousand by 1901 surprises me. I thought they had all been there since the Normans came, it being a Norman name. I wonder where they came from then, after 1851? That is the year my gggrandfather left, at the age of 19. maybe its a lack of records rather than an absence of Fitzgeralds!
Again, thank you so much, Col; this is extremely helpful. Nancy Eister

once again, Col, this is very helpful!
The Irish Times site is a wealth of information.
I will endeavor to write to some of these Fitzgeralds - however, I will be there next month, just over a weekend though! Staying in Gortnadiha, hoping to locate local parishes, find old graves, look at registries? In Dungarvan, Abbeyside, and Ring.
Can you recommend a good place to get started once physically there? Or refer me to anyone there? I so appreciate your time with this.
And instinctively, I'm feeling these Fitzgeralds came from Cork.
Thanks again- Nancy Eister
