Hi, I have been researching

my family for some time and I had hit a brick wall and hired a local geneologist for help. Perhaps I gave him some wrong information but it turns out the family he gave me is incorrect and I wondered if someone there could help. I believe my GG grandfather was James O'Brien and he married Anastasia and had a son James born inSt.John's Parish Waterford City on 8/11/1870 although I think it was slightly later. I believe James senior was a blacksmith and was still alive in 1893. It would be great if you point me in the right direction with any hints or tips. I look forward to hearing from you Best Regards Maureen

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland in Co. Waterford from 1865-1875 and there were 25 James O'Brien baptismal/birth records where the father was James but none of the records had a mother named Anastasia. I looked on the NLI site for the St. John's parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1118  and for some reason baptismal records only go to 1837. Not sure what the explanation is. Maybe you can contact the church. We d o not have a parish liaison in Waterford city..

This is link to 1901 Census for James O'Brien & Anastasia Kelly, their Grandson John O'Brien born in Liverpool abt 1888       http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Waterford/Faithlegg/Cr…

James & Anastasia  had a son Patrick O'Brien born October 1870. There is always the possibility that he was named Patrick James O'Brien but known as James O'Brien. They had a number of children with only Elizabeth residing in the Waterford area in 1901.
