Hello I'm trying to track down my ancestors who came originated from Ireland below is the only information I have to go by I've hit a lot of brick walls and could use any help I can get in getting started with my Irish ancestors.

At this stage I am guessing Pierce Fleming was born aprox 1797 and died 1881 as found but not confirmed via ancestory.com. Below is all the information I have to go by handed down from a now deceased relative. I believe Pieree was a spelling error on part of my source. I have confirmed from my line up to Thomas Fleming who married Catherine Terry on April 26, 1850 in ABBEYSIDE.DUNGARVAN.IRELAND I do not have a copy of that record either however I have thomas death certificate from Australia.

PIEREE FLEMING (Pierce).  He married ANNE McGUIRE.

 Includes NotesNotes for PIEREE FLEMING:
PIEREE FLEMING WAS A FARMER.

Children of PIEREE FLEMING and ANNE McGUIRE are:

  1. +NICHOLAS FLEMING, b. 1829, WATERFORD.IRELAND., d. December 04, 1911, COBURG.VICTORIA..
  2. +THOMAS FLEMING, b. 1832, DUNGARVAN.WATERFORD.IRELAND., d. July 06, 1897, CLIFTON HILL.VICTORIA.

I located the civil death index record for Pierce/Peirce in 1881. You can get a copy of the record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The record will show where the deceased died, cause of death and the name of the informant and sometimes the relationship of the informant to the deceased. The age shown was provided by the informant and may be an approximation. Let me know if you want instructions on getting the record.

  • I think that will be the way to go I'd love to know what I need to do step wise to pay for the death certificate I'm hoping that as you have said that sometimes the informant is a relative however at this point of time I'm happy looking into any leads I can get.

What I know so far is that Pierce Fleming had two sons nicholas and Thomas my line comes down through Thomas the youngest of two sons who was born in Dungarvan Ireland in 1832 and migrated to australia on the Ben Nevis ship in 1857 however Pierce stayed behind.

Thomas was burried in the Roman Catholic section of the Melbourne Cemetary along with his wife and two children from a second marrage and a second grave (both unmarked) of his son William and his wife.

Go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx    In the middle of the page print out the death form, fill out the form to the best of your ability, make sure you ask for a copy, include the data from the index record above: registration district, quarter/year of the event, volume and page number. You have to use snail mail to sned the request to the GRO office in Roscommon (address provided in instructions) but you can ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Dear All

I have been in touch with Eddie previously.

My Great Grand father  was Pierce Fleming from Waterford. On his marriage certificate in 1876 he gave his age on the certificate as "about 30." On various documents throughout his life it is very hard to know how old he is; perhaps he didn't know. They married in Carterton, New Zealand in the Catholic Church; they were the 3rd marriage in that church. I feel that Pierce must have been born around the time of the famine. He married Mary Jane Foster from Kerry. They had 8 children. Neither of these people mentioned on any of their various government records or church records that they had any siblings or any thing else about their origins.

Their children  are called Ann, Laura, Peter (Pierce), William, Thomas, Henry John, Charles, James (in later life he was know as Joseph). His daughter is still alive and lives in Melbourne. I am descended from Ann, she was my grandmother. I feel that there must be some connection with the Pierce that you write about and my Pierce. Thomas is buried in Sydney and I met him when he stayed with us in new Zealand in the 1960's. His life was an active one with the Sydney Watersiders.  Tom was Secretary of the Seamen's Union in the 50's. Charles and James (known by his family as Joseph) were in WW1 with the Australian troops and William  (NZ troops) was killed and is buried in Mud Corner in Belguim.

Are ther any suggestions re a connection with my family?
