Good morning!  As I plan a visit Sept 2016, would love to find the final resting place of my g-g-grandparents. Their children (Richard, James, Anastasia and John) immigrated from Dungarvan area in 1880s to New York.

How can I access cemetery information about their parents, Bridget Kane and Patrick Powers who stayed in Dungarvan area?

Would love to memorialize those important ancestors of our family!  Not sure my 84 year old mother can travel through all the cemeteries of Dungarvan area SO would love to get as much information as I can before we leave.

Thank you for any suggestions!

  • Hi Ann Marie,

The surname Power is very common in Co Waterford so it can be difficult to verify exactly the Power you may find.  I would suggest that you go online to www.rootsireland and pay a €10 subscription for one day.  This would give you up to 400 records to view in that time period.  Perform a search for Richard, James , Anastatia and John.  Look for their baptismal certs with their father's name included in search.  Don't put in mother's name at the beginning as this narrows the search parameters and you wont get as many hits.  Once you have found the baptismal records, it will give you the parish church in which they were baptised.  There's a good chance that their parents didn't move from this parish and you will know where to start looking for them.  The same could be done for your Clonmel relatives.  The €10 subscription would give you plenty of searches.  I assume that they were all adults when they travelled to New York so we could assume their baptismal dates range from mid 1850s to late 1860s or so.  Hope this helps you on your journey.  A little bit of searching online over there will save you miles of traipsing through overgrown cemetaries here.  And believe me there are many many small buriel places.

    Kind regards,

    Anne Dennehy
