    Hello again!

I could not find any records on Roots Ireland for the family. There were no McGuire families in Desert in the 1901 census. I did find an Edward McGuire civil birth index record in the Strabane registration district in 1869 which is below. There was also an 1868 and an 1870 records. You would have to write to the General Register Office to get a copy of the record for around 4 euros. Here is a link to the Leckpatrick RC register. Records start in 1863 and end in 1881 for baptisms.

Do you have additional info on your McGuire family?

  • Thank you for your response(s). I have Edward's birth certificate and his baptism. It's his parents I am chasing - Hugh was a labourer. I have Hugh's likely father Edward in the Griffith Valuation. But you may be able to help me by giving a generalization about the relationships of god-parents.  A visiting Irish priest once told me that they are often older siblings or at least very close relations. Edward's sponsors were Edwd & Nancy Mcguire whom I'm not yet able to identify.

I agree with the Irish priest. Edward (the sponsor) was likely a brother to Hugh. Nancy could have been Edard's wife or a sister.
