Hello. I am researching the family history of my great grandmother Ellen Hazlett. I believe her parents to be Robert Hazlett and Alice Nixon and that they were married on 5 March, 1830 in the Church of Ireland, Kilskeery. The entry (ref 1778-1849 Kilskeery marriages, line 680 Proni Mic/1/6), incorrectly shows the Hazlett as Hartlet).

I would like to confirm this information and obtain any birth/baptism, marriage, and death/burial details for them. All online avenues have been unsuccessful.

I believe my great grandmother Ellen Hazlett was born c1835. She, and her sister, Jane c1836, emigrated to Australia in 1855. I believe there were other siblings, Samuel 1839, Alice 1842 and Thomas 1846. I have no information re birth/baptism.

The family certainly lived in Fermanagh. I have found evidence that they lived on a farm at Relagh/Bertyclough. An uncle lived on a farm at Glenwinny/Derrygonelly.

I have no information at all about the Nixon family. I reached a dead end when trying to ascertain whether Alice Nixon was in any way related to A. Nixon Esq, who owned the property Blaaanaleck in the parish of Cleenish. I may have been on the wrong track but that was the only Nixon name I could locate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best regards

The records for the Kilskeery C of I church are not online. You may want to contact the church.

FYI Civil registration of births started in 1864. Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages started in 1845.

  • I notice from the GRONI website that an Alice Hazlette married Albert Langford on 13.1.1874, marriage registered in Enniskillen. It might be worth getting the marriage certificate to see if her father was Robert etc.

You can view the certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the ?search registrations? option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

(You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs ?2 to a view a certificate).

I can't see that couple in the 1901 census, anywhere in Ireland so they may have moved away.

  • Hi

Thank you for your response. I was looking for family of Robert and Alice (nee Nixon) Hazlett. If your discovery is correct, it would possibly mean Robert Hazlette had died and Alice re-married to Albert Longford.
