John Francis McNamee baptised 2nd of August 1842 in Meenanea, Kildress, Co. Tyrone to Michael McNamee and Cath Loughran.

Michael and Catharine married 1 Nov 1841 Kildress, Co., Tyrone. Catharine resided at Dungate at time of marriage.

John Francis moved on to Consett, Durham, England to work at the Consett Ironworks. He married Rose Anne Brannigan there on the 26th of June 1865 at Black Hall.

In 1869 John and Rose Ann sailed on the "Young Australia" from London to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia arriving 13th of July.

John worked at the Mount Perry Copper Mines from 1869 until just before his death in 1923. Rose Ann passed away in 1902. I know nothing else about John's family or time in Ireland/England or if he also worked the mines in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Rose Ann Brannigan is the daughter of Stephen Brannigan and Ann Hughes (possible Elizabeth Ann Hughes). She is listed in the 1861 Consett, Durham, England Census living with her brother, Terence. Another brother was found in Queensland, John. Terence and John have been listed as being born in Co. Tyrone, Ireland. Terence was baptised 24 April 1832 at Killeshill father Stephen Branagan and mother Isabelle Hughes. Another brother, Stephen, was baptised 24 July 1842 Corvanaghan, Kildress, Co. Tyrone. father Stephen Branigan and mother Betty Hughes. The death certificate of Rose Ann states father is Stephen Branigan and mother is Ann Hughes. John's death certificate states father is Stephen Brannigan and mother is Elizabeth Hughes. Rose Ann's marriage certificate just states father as Stephen Branigan, labourer.

In 1881 England Census, Stephen Brannigan age 65 widow is living with son Stephen in Conside & Knitsley, Durham, England. The son is an Iron puddler at the Consett Ironworks. Durham lists his death age 64 on 9th of Feb 1886 buried at Consett Cemetery in the National Burial Index for England and Wales.

  • Information on Michael McNamee and Catherine Loughran... Birth, parents, other children, deaths, does anyone tie into this family?

Stephen Brannigan, who is his family? Which name is correct for his wife? Are there two wives or does she have three names - Elizabeth Ann Hughes or Isabelle Hughes? What is their marriage date and place, their parents, children other than the four I found in England and Australia?  Does someone tie into this family?

Have I got my research correct in Ireland? Is this John Francis's family?

  • Hi, I've just come across this post. If you are still out there and looking for information I think I can help.  While looking for my Tyrone ancestors I have found a family tree which contains the people you mention. i was interested as I went to school in County Durham with descendants of these people who appear in the tree. i also think that my teacher Mrs Brannigan and her daughter are related to this family.
