I am looking for any details of Ardle (sometimes misspelt Arnold) Mckenna - born Tyrone 1827 and Elizabeth Harkins born Tyrone 1833? Ardle's parents are James McKenna (farmer) and Roseann McGarvie. Elizabeth's parents are James Harkin and Elizabeth McQuillan.
According to Scottish records - they were married in Tyrone and had two children before 1849 - who died before they came to Scotland. We have found their son James' baptism record for 1846 in Tullybryan - Errigal Keiran. James McKenna is also listed in the land records for there.
Were wondering if there were any extra records in ireland either for their other son - or confirming where in tyrone they were born or married - or anything else about their parents.

If Ardle and Elizabeth had any children born in Scotland in 1855 or from 1861 onwards, the relevant birth certificates should record the date and place of their marriage.
Looking at the RC records for Errigal Kieran, they don?t appear to have any marriage records earlier than 1864, so if that?s where the couple married you won?t be able to confirm it from church sources. The baptism records appear to start in 1834 and are on line on the rootsireland site (subscription). There are copies on microfilm from 1847 onwards in the National Library, Dublin and PRONI, Belfast but in either case a personal visit is required to access them.
Griffiths Valuation has Michael McKenna and a James McKenna (house and small garden ? plot 4b) both with agricultural labourers cottages in Tullybryan in 1860. James McKenna?s name remains against that property till 1903. The cottage was noted as being ?down? in 1910. He doesn?t appear in the 1901 census so I assume he actually left before that. (Griffiths clerks sometimes took a while to catch up).

There are no other obvious records for Tyrone that I cna think of that seem likely to provide much additional information on this family. The tithe applotment records (which are held in PRONI) should list who was farming in Tullybryan in the 1820s/1830s but small cottages such as James & Michael occupied usually aren't listed.

Hello,
I have been researching James McKenna and Roseanne McGarvie because they are ancestors of mine. I have this information regarding their son Ardl but little more. I have just recently connected them to their townland in Ireland and am just beginning to explore that aspect. The information I have is that James came from the townland of Aghnaha, Errigal Truagh, north Co. Monaghan. I have also received this information from Gerry McKenna, Dublin, who is also researching this family. Perhaps you already know him. I just received this information is an email from him:
"Myself and my siblings and my aunt have 5 DNA matches on Ancestry with descendants of James & Roseanne.
It would seem that the family may have gone to PEI via Scotland. I connected with a descendant of Ardle who remained in Scotland
and they have proof that Ardle's parents were James & Roseanne. See here from claireseanmr : https://www.ancestry.co.uk/mediaui-viewer/tree/28225041/person/12015289003/media/be243ddc-fa04-4e2e-8abe-b108968219e3
While I don't DNA match with claireseanmr, her father is James Melvin and he DNA matches with similar people in PEI.
I had the following message from her last year.:
My dad has done a DNA test and loads of his matches in it are the various descendants of Ardle McKenna and Elizabeth Harkin - his great granny is Roseann McKenna their daughter. They moved to Denny in Scotland and the Scottish records are really detailed far better than the irish ones, particularly the death records which give parents names and occupations. Ardle McKenna's parents are listed as James Mckenna (Farmer) and Roseanne McGarvie. We also found in the Scottish birth records for one of Ardle's children a note by the registrar that he had been married in Tyrone and had had two children in Tyrone who had died before his other children were born. The Scottish records don't normally give anything more than Ireland - but at the point this son was born the family were in a particularly Irish location in Scotland which might of been why more specific details were given. We then checked on roots ireland if we could find a baptism for these two other children - and found had a son called James who had been born in Errigal Kieran before he came to Scotland- in Tyrone (not Monaghan but it is near Auchnacloy which is on the border with Monaghan. There is a James McKenna living there too in the land records for the 1860s. If the prince edward island people have a DNA match with my dad James Melvin then they would be connected to Roseanne McGarvie and Ardle Mckenna."
I had no idea there was a Scots connection until the other day so I have no info about that yet. I hope this helps you. If you want to connect you can also reach me at my email: johannammckenna@gmail.com
Good luck with your search!
