I believe my great-grandfather, Thomas Holland who lived at Carrickcastle, married Sarah Wright who lived at Kilmore, in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone in 1864.  Does anyone have links to this family?

  • Valerie:

Below is the civil marriage index record which confirms that they were married in 1864. If you want to get a copy of the record, let me know and I will explain the process. The civil marriage record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom.

  • Griffiths Valuation for 1860 lists 2 Wright farms in Kilmore. One headed by John Wright had a farmhouse, outbuildings and 42 acres (plot 11).  Beside it on plot 12a was Andrew with a farmhouse, outbuildings and 28 acres.

Andrew died 1879. Full Abstract :

The Will of Andrew Wright late of Kilmore County Tyrone Farmer deceased who died 8 March 1879 at same place was proved at Armagh by the oaths of John Wright of Tullyrimond and Francis Wright of Ballyvaddy both in (Dyan) said County Farmers the Executors. (You can read the full will on-line on the PRONI site).

His wife Sarah died intestate. The probate file has been destroyed in the 1922 fire. All that remains is the summary:

    Full Abstract :

Letters of Administration of the personal estate of Sarah Wright late of Kilmore County Tyrone Widow who died 15 August 1888 at same place were granted at Armagh to James Wright of Kilmore Farmer a Son.

The 2 farms were still owned by the Wright family in 1901:

    Full Abstract :

Can?t trace the Holland family in Carrycastle (Carrickcastle). Possibly they weren?t farmers.

  • I am impressed by your response to my query.  I had actually found the record on ifhf.rootsireland and think they are my ancestors as their children all tie in to what I believe to be correct.  They left Ireland at some point and ended up in Glasgow but just exactly when, I'm not sure.  The marriage record says husband's father was also Thomas Holland and he was a farmer.  Wife's father was James Wright and he was also a farmer.  Thank you for your help.

  • You'll probably need to rely on Scottish census data, and perhaps children?s dates and places of birth to establish when the family moved to Scotland. (Obviously there are no migration records for such a journey).

The only Thomas Holland in Griffiths in 1860 was in the townland of Creevelough. These appear to be his descendants in 1901. Can?t say whether this is the family you are after:
