  • Erin123,

The only evidence I have found for your family is two Griffith's Valuation records (1860) for an Owen O'Neill and a Terence O'Neill in Mousetown, Clonoe. The birth records for the RC parish of Clonoe begin in 1806 to 1902, but the only years I could find on the paid site Roots Ireland for the time period you gave are 1815, 1816, 1828, and 1838; so there must be some lost records. Additionally, are you certain that Agnes is the name of John's wife? You mention that their children were born in Clonoe, but a search of the years 1851 to 1881 (the probable years they would have had children) on RI show no children born to John O'Neill and Agnes. What were their children's names?

    Regards,

  • There is an O’Neill heritage project headed by Sean O’Neill (to whom I am distantly related), who is from the O’Neill branch in County Mayo (where a number of O’Neill’s relocated during the Plantation of Ulster in the 17th Century), and whose email address is sean@oneill.ie (he has told me that he does not mind me giving out that address)  His family comes from near Swineford in East Mayo, but his research also covers Ulster and other parts of Ireland, so he might be able to help you locate more information about your ancestors.

  • Hi Carolyn.

Thanks for the info ,yes Mousetown is correct , Sarah, James and John , born between 1845 to 1851 are their children. Really wanted to find out John's mother's name , already looked at the 1834 census but it only gives names of head of households only .

    kind regards
