From North Tipperary Genealogy (rootsireland.ie) I have uncovered the marriage of John Hayes (1819-1889) and Bridget Ryan (1822 – 1894), the birth records for their daughter Nora or (Honora), and the births of twins John and Bridget.

Marriage of John Hayes, (no address listed) and Bridget Ryan (address: Hogan’s Pass) on 12 Feb 1844, at Monsea Parish, Tipperary, Roman Catholic, (Witnesses James Hayes and Bridget Ryan)

According to John Hayes’ death certificate dated 29 Jan 1889, John’s parents were John Hayes and Nora Hagen. I have only found the Hagen surname only a couple of places in Ireland, and none in Tipperary; however, the surname Hogan is very prevalent in County Tipperary, and I believe that Nora Hagen was actually Nora Hogan. It isn’t uncommon for names and spellings of names change throughout time due to translations, hard to read documents, etc.

From the 1865 New York state census records, we know that John and Bridget were the Parents of seven children. Only three of them survived to adulthood.

Baptism of Daughter Nora (Sponsors: Mgt. Ryan and not recorded) on 24 Jan 1847 at Gurtinilla, Monsea, Tipperary

Baptism of twins John (Sponsors: John Ryan and Mary Nolen) and Bridget (Sponsors: Mary Ryan and John Cleary) on 22 Mar 1849 at Gurteenakilla, Monsea, Tipperary. I have not found death records for twins John and Bridget, but I believe that they died either before the family moved to America or on the trip to America. Bridget’s sponsor, Mary Ryan was the elder Bridget’s sister. Later I found John and Mary Cleary in Lima, N.Y.

After arriving to America, John and Bridget had two more daughters Bridget and Mariah, and sons James and John in Massachusetts. Bridget and Mariah died from Scarletina in 1858 at ages 7 and 4, only 15 days apart from each other.

James, my great-great Grandfather was a Harness Maker and moved to Oregon in 1888. Recently I met a descendant of John, Jr.

The Family moved to Lima, NY around 1860.

I am curios of any of the Hayes family in the area; I would also like to find the graves of the twins, if there are any. Also, I would like to find which ship that they immigrated on.
