My 3xgreat grandparents Edmund PURCELL (b. abt 1787 near Thurles to Edmund PURCELL and Mary DWYER) and Mary RYAN (b. abt. 1802 Tipperary to Mary and Edward (Ned) RYAN) married at Upperchurch abt. 1822.

In 1840 Edmund PURCELL (abt 1787 - 1861) and Mary RYAN (b. abt. 1802) emigrated to New South Wales, Australia as Bounty Scheme migrants with their children Mary PURCELL (b. 1826 'Drumbarn' [Drombane?], near Thurles, Tipperary) and Edmond PURCELL (b. abt. 18 Mar 1827, Tipperary).

Please can you advise the relevant Townland for the Upperchurch Parish and any other information that might be available regarding the family members listed above.

With thanks,

Shirley Turner

  • Shirley:

There are no townlands in Upperchurch parish that start with Drum. Go to

     http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/index.html

to search for townlands by parish.

The closest townland I can see is Drumbane townland in Moyaliff civil parish which is south of Upperchurch parish and west of Thurles parish.

  • Thank you very much for your information Roger.

Looks very promising. I had a quick look at http://www.irelandgenweb.com/irltip/townlands/Drumbane.htm which seems to have some good tips for record searches.
