Banquet Hill is not an official townland name. The civil parish for the family was likely Templebeg. The 1829 Tithe records for the parish show Carew entries in a townland called Poughbrack which I believe is a typo and should be Loughbrack. The 1850 Griffiths also shows Careys in Loughbrack although no Thomas.

I also checked the 1901 census for Loughbrack and there was a Cary family listed. Possibly Catherine was a widow of a brother to James. Also included the 1911 census for the family.

Here is a link to the online Irish phonebook. Make sure you hit the Residential Tab.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your response and checking!  The family immigrated to USA about 1842, thus would not be in the 1850 Griffiths or 1901 census under these names.  But more than likely there were siblings who stayed behind.

I have transcriptions of James and 6 sibilings bapismal and Thomas & Winifred's marriage records from Rootsireland.ie showing -

    Address: Banquet Hill

    Parish/District: Kilcommon

    County: Co. Tipperary

I believe this is in the Cashel & Emly Archdiocese - Kilcommon, Hollycross

What I really desire is to see the actual records, walk the homeland and hopefully connect with some relatives.  Any suggestions?

The National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online on July 8th. I would review the Kilcommon register at that time and you will see the actual entries of your ancestors baptismal and marriage records.

I went on Google Maps and entered Kilcommon and selected the entry for North Tipperary. I found Kilcommon and just to the right (east) was Loughbrack and northeast of Loughbrack was Banquet Hill.

As far as current relatives, the phone book link I gave you may provide info to contact someone before you go. The problem is after the 1911 census there are not a lot of resources to track a family from 1911 to 2015. I would contact the church and see if they can assist with any Carey families in the area. http://cashel-emly.ie/our-diocese/parishes/e-k/kilcommon-hollyford/

  • Roger,

Thank you for your assistance.  I have heard about the release of the RC parish registers and was wondering if they were going to be actual images or transcriptions - I can't wait to see them!

We are staying in Limerick for a night and plan to go to Kilcommon for a day or afternoon - I did see Banquet Hill as as a road and Kilcommon has a RC church and of course a pub!

I will check the phone book link.

I have emailed the parish priest and hopefully will receive a reply!

  • My James Carey was born around 1830 in County Tipp and came over in and around 1854 ish and settled in Brooklyn NY. He married a Bridget Walsh in 1862 in St Paul's RC church Brooklyn. James had a brother Thomas who I found a record for marrying a  Hanora Murphy on Jul 30th 1848 in the Parish of Newport County Tipp. They had a daughter Rebecca born June 12th 1849 who I found a record for  in the Townland of Toorabrien parish of Newport  County Tipperary.  They came over to Brooklyn around 1858.    I believe this is where my Carey family was from  the Parish of newport on the County Tipp/ Limerick border near the City of Limerick. Kilcommon is not that far from this area. I also had Ryan's in the family but this is a very common name in this area like Smith is in the US. I hope the web designers are ready for July 8th as a lot of people all over the world are going to try and access this free info.
